Mobile Post Office, Tai Po
I had no idea these even existed until I walked past one the other day in a village in the more northern part of Tai Po District (i.e. along Ting Kok Road – more on that later).
So here we are, for those people who can’t be bothered to make the trip into the town centre to post their parcels and letters, you can instead have the postie visit you in his nice shiny green van. I think his name was Postman Pak
As far as I understand, he simply drives into a village and parks up for a while and waits to see if anyone would like to use his services, and then moves on to the next village and so on.

Totally off-topic, but you started it with the Postman Pak crack…When we migrated to NZ, because of the safe years I’d had in HK, I deliberately chose to live in a suburb of Auckland called Pakuranga which has a high Asian population. I later found out that its local nickname was Pakuchanga (or PakuTsang-a, if you prefer).

They get around to many villages. I saw one the other day at Chuen Lung halfway up Tai Mo Shan. It reminds me of the good old days in the UK when public services really used to work!

The mobile post office visits my neighborhood of Tai Po. It visits twice a week on a set schedule and is quite popular.

I had no idea, Jen. It’s been a revelation.
